The Seven Spiritual Wonders of the World
The First Spiritual Wonder
The Greatest Design in the World
A police officer on a motorcycle observed a large enclosed truck that was being driven down Sixth Street, in Los Angeles, California. The driver stopped every few blocks, got out of the truck, and beat all the way around the sides of the truck with a large baseball bat. After observing this for some time, the officer turned on his siren, flashed his lights and with strong hand signals ordered the driver to pull over. The policeman then said to the driver, “Mister, as far as I can tell, you’re not breaking the law. But I just gotta know, what are you doing?”
“Officer,” the truck driver explained, “This truck here has a capacity of five thousand pounds. But, you see, I got six thousand pounds of canaries in this truck. So, I gotta keep a thousand pounds of canaries up in the air all the time!”
Perhaps you are “up in the air” about the answer to these questions: “What is a Christian anyway? What must I know or do to become a Christian? What does it mean to be born again? How can I know that I have been born again? How can I be born again? The Bible has the answers to these questions and I want to help you find them. I call these answers, “The Seven Spiritual Wonders of the World.” At the bottom of each page you will find references that show you where you can find these answers in the Bible. After all, the way the Bible answers these questions is more important than the way I may answer them.
History or a good encyclopedia will tell you about the seven ancient wonders, the seven modern wonders and the seven natural wonders of the world. The Bible will tell you that God is a Spirit and that the true wonders of the world are spiritual.
The first spiritual wonder is the greatest design in the world. People who study this world through a telescope or a microscope are intrigued by the amazing design and order they see. The design and order we see in the big things and the little things of the world is majestic, beautiful and complex. When you study the phenomenal design you find in the macrocosm and the microcosm of the world in which we live, you realize it takes more faith to believe this world just happened than it does to believe in an Architect and a Creator of the universe and the earth. People of faith believe the spectacular design we observe in the world is the signature of God, written on the canvas of His creation.
God is the Architect and the Creator of this world, and of you and me. It is only consistent with the character of God to believe God has a deliberate purpose for everything He designs and creates. Of all the designs in this world, the greatest is the unique design God has for every individual human life. Almighty God has created you and me with a potential individuality that makes us different from every other human being on earth.
A clue to our designed and intended individuality is the fact that there are more than sixty billion fingers on this earth today and every one of those fingers has a unique fingerprint. Every one of the more than six billion human beings living here on earth today has unique fingerprints, voiceprints, and DNA. This physical evidence is a clue that gives us the faith to believe the profound biblical claim that God has a unique design for the more than six billion lives being lived out on earth today, had such a plan for all who have lived before us, and has such a plan for all who will follow us. Surely this design must be considered one of the spiritual wonders of the world.
